“Our country has failed us,” the artist expressed through tears after hearing the testimony of the young Trey Louis
At the end of October 2022, the United States surpassed the historical record for school shootings over the course of a year in the country itself. 257 assaults in schools that only last year claimed the lives of hundreds of people. This is a terrifying reality that millions of young people and children face every day, and no solution has yet been found.
In this context, it is usual to see the testimony of survivors of these events on television from time to time, and this is exactly what happened a few hours ago on ABC. Young Trey Louis, one of the survivors of the Texas shooting that took place at the Santa Fe High School in 2018 in which 10 people died, appeared on the new edition of American Idol to sing his version of Stone by Whiskey Myers.
A song that he stood up to the entire jury and that later brought with it the confession of his experiences as a teenager, leaving everyone shocked, particularly Katy Perry, who burst into tears as soon as she heard about her experience.
Katy Perry’s words
“Our country has fucking let us down. This is not right. You should be singing here because you love the music, not because you had to go through that fucking shit. You don’t have to lose eight friends. I hope you remind people that we have to change because you know what, I’m scared too” said the artist with tears in her eyes.
The testimony of the young man and the words of Katy Perry have gone viral on social networks and digital media, being shared both on Twitter and TikTok, collecting thousands of views and interactions while users from all over the world demand a change in the protection of the most youth in schools and arms policy in the North American country.
