4 Movies for Valentine’s Day in which LOVE is the leading player, but not the Romantic One

February 14 is the day of lovers, couples, friendships…And ultimately, of love. But who determines that it is expressly romanticism that has to be celebrated on this day? If something makes it clear to us every day, it is that there are many categories of feelings opposite to hate, and there is no better chance to remember them than this Valentine’s Day.

And, of course, the cinema is again a perfect showcase. For this reason, Hot1039 propose 4 movies in which romantic love is NOT everything, so that you can celebrate this day in a very original way. Keep reading and, if you want, be sure to give one of them a try:

1. Her (2013)

Theodore is going through a hard stage in his life, and to try to reduce the day to day, he gets an Artificial Intelligence that keeps him company. Maybe even too much.

Why is different? Falling in love with a voice is not something very usual, although in the case of  Spike Jonze movie has a completely different message. Her talks about the agony that a lot of people feel when being alone, and even taking it to the extreme, gives a valuable lesson to the viewer. Because being alone, and above all knowing how to be, is the best kind of love to which one should aspire.

2. Call me by your name (2017)

Elio is a teenager who spends his vacations in an Italian villa, although everything will change when Oliver, his dad’s assistant, crosses his path. From there, his summer will be completely different.

Why is different? Contrary to what many may believe, Call Me By Your Name does not tell the chronology of a first homosexual relationship: but of self-discovery. Elio is a young man who is experimenting with his sexuality, and in addition to having a different taste for peaches, he continues to find his way on life even after meeting Oliver.

3. Frozen (2013)

Elsa, princess of Arandelle, flees in horror after demonstrating that she cannot control the icy powers that a curse gave her at birth. His sister Anna, along with Kristoff and his reindeer, will being an exhausted search until they can fix the situation before it’s too late.

Why is different? It does not matter how much merchandising with Elsa’s aimed at children you see, because Frozen is not just for children. Behind a Disney princess story lies a story of overcoming, dreams and, of course, family: The relationship between Elsa and Anna clearly empathizes FAMILY LOVE. Frozen sends the message that family love is more important than any fairy relationship that you are beginning.

4. La La Land (2016)

Starring Ryan Gosling as Sebastian and Emma Stone as Mia, the desperation acclaimed Damien Chazelle film that earned the director an Oscar tells the story of a jazz musician and aspiring actress. While a love affair between the protagonists begins to take place in their lives, success mounts and both are faced with hard decisions that greatly impact their relationship.

Why is different? Mia and Sebastian love each other, and they demonstrate it, but that is where their true moral comes in: Are they going to be happier with a partner, or with the dream of their life fulfilled?
