Riverside County Department of Animal Services (RCDAS) is set to join more than 380 shelters nationwide participating in the “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” shelter pet adoption promotion, in partnership with BISSELL Pet Foundation, nonprofit organization with a mission to help reduce the number of animals in shelters through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, vaccinations, microchipping and emergency support.
“Every day is a great day to adopt a shelter pet and families will especially enjoy the fun and festive atmosphere of the free pet adoptions at our annual Home for the Holidays event,” said Erin Gettis, director, Riverside County Department of Animal Services.
All pet adoptions are FREE on Saturday, December 16 at the following shelter locations:
- Coachella Valley Animal Campus, located at 72-050 Pet Land Place in Thousand Palms. (Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
- San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, located at 581 S. Grand Ave., in San Jacinto. (Hours: Noon to 4 p.m.)
- Western Riverside County Shelter, located at 6851 Van Buren Blvd. in Jurupa Valley. (Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Visitors to the main Western Riverside County Shelter in Jurupa Valley will enjoy holiday festivities to include face painting and balloon art for the kids, photos with Santa and free kids’ crafts.
Additionally, RCDAS will be joined by representatives from Petco Love Lost, a nonprofit animal welfare charity dedicated to reuniting lost and found pets with their owners by registering a photo of a pet in case they go missing.
“Our nation’s animal shelters need your help as they face an overcrowding crisis unlike anything we have experienced in more than a decade. The devastating increase in owner surrenders and stray intakes has left tens of thousands of deserving pets desperate to find a home,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation.
